Iphone App stores

If you use an iphone and use the app store to find and download your apps then you may have noticed an increase in app stores on the web. I find Itunes a pain to use and prefer finding apps using a web browser rather than through the iphone.

I have put together a list of app stores for the iphone here.

  • Appboy is an iPhone and iPad app directory that enables you to review, download and create categorized lists of apps.
  • SmokinApps is a directory for mobile apps, but also features app reviews with “editor’s ratings” to help you learn and discover the best apps for iOS and Android.
  • Chomp is a beautifully-designed iOS app directory that enables you to discover and review apps.
  • AppsFire is a social apps directory with heavy Facebook integration and mobile apps for discovering the best apps on iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
  • Appitalism is a community-driven mobile app director for iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry and other devices.
  • AppStoreHQ aggregates app reviews from around the web and on Twitter and organizes them to create a leaderboard of the “hottest” iPhone, Android and iPad apps.
  • Appolicious combines social networking, journalism and technology to help discover iPhone, Android and iPad apps.

Use video to explain how to do something

As a developer/Tester I need to explain how I have fixed something or why something has broken. Usually this involves writing complicated emails with step by step instructions on how to replicate the issue.

I came across screen toaster which make it much easier to create video tutorials of what is happening  on your screen. Usually you would have to install a windows application and then get this to capture video, convert it to a web format and upload it to your webserver or youtube. Screen Toaster does all of this as a web app. So just create a free account and put your headset on and you can create and upload a video in a couple of minutes. Then send a link to your contact asking them to follow your instruction on the video.

Here is one I made earlier, where I explain to a client the new functionality I have added to their shopping cart.
