4 more EROL to X-Cart migrations before September

We’ve had a run of X-Cart to EROL migrations this summer after Brightscape Solutions went into liquidation.

John and Ginger have 3 stores in total to migrate. The final site will be The Plastic Shop before the September cut off date for Secure Central.

We’ve learnt alot from the process but all in all it has been a very positive experience and has moved Zone 1 Creative a notch up the ladder.

Thank you to all the clients who put their trust in Zone 1 Creative.

‘Why is it so expensive to pay a developer to migrate my store?’

Migration

First of all ‘migration’ is a misleading word as there is no magic button. Migrating from one e-commerce platform to another simply means building the whole site again.

The devil is in the detail

Re-creating a website design to match its present state often means catching up with several years of design tweaks and modifications by the site owner. For example, if a site owner has added extra images, links, videos or html styling, these areas have to be first identified and then re-created manually.

In other words your site design doesn’t truly end at the homepage.

Exporting and Importing Products

Product data – Product Name, Description and Prices, are exported into a CSV and then re-imported into the new software but all extraneous html has to be stripped out before a clean import can be achieved. This html then has to be re-created manually (See last paragraph)

Shipping, taxes and countries

These settings can often be quite complex and the new platform may handle these differently – no two platforms are ever truly ‘like for like’

Cross Browser Testing

Everything also has to be thoroughly tested across IE, Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome for layout and functionality.

I hope this helps to explain a little

Brightscape / EROL have gone Bust

It looks like Brightscape have gone into voluntary liquidation on February 23rd 2011.

A message on the now locked forum showed the following

Dear EROL Customers,

When Brightscape Solutions was formed 18 months ago, we licenced in assets from Dreamteam Design and Anya Designs to trade their EROL and iLaw software and services from both parties. As you know, we have recently announced the provision of ONE Commerce Magento services to businesses who recognise they need to grow, benefitting from the same team that brought you EROL.

About six months ago, a significant legal problem began to arise with one of the principal shareholders of Dreamteam Design and, despite our attempts to bring it to an amicable conclusion, we sadly have to announce the end of Brightscape Solutions’ involvement with EROL with immediate effect.

As Directors of the business, we have to take a positive stance over this situation to protect and preserve our customers. We have therefore chosen to place Brightscape Solutions into voluntary liquidation and will be restructuring the business through Anya, one of the original parties involved in Brightscape’s formation.

Brightscape’s closure has been placed in the hands of a liquidator appointed by the company and we are currently in advanced negotiations with the proposed liquidator for the ecommerce business owned by Brightscape through Anya, for a deal that can be ratified on 11th March 2011.

We are currently in the process of relocating in order to continue to offer e-commerce services via the ONE Commerce Magento platform. Anya can be contacted on our new number, 0845 259 2173, if you have any questions in the next few days. Whilst we undergo restructure and an office move, there may be times when we are unavailable but rest assured we will respond in due course.

You can confirm the situation by contacting Chris O’Brien of FRP Advisory who are the proposed liquidators and with whom we are dealing.

FAQ:

What does this mean for me?
———————————————-
This means that sales, development and support of EROL by Brightscape Solutions has ceased until such times that either Dreamteam Design Ltd or a third party assume responsibility for their provision.

How can I get Technical Support for EROL?
—————————————————-
There will be a limited Helpdesk-only service for EROL Support over the next few weeks, being run on a voluntary basis by ex-members of the EROL Support team. Further information about long-term EROL support will follow in due course.

The EROL Forums have been set as read-only to allow historic issues to be readable. The knowledgebase at support.erol.co.uk is still active.

What’s happening to my hosting?
—————————————————
EROL Hosting services are provided by UKFast. Discussions are under way to ensure continuation of this service. All customers who have a hosting account with us will be comtacted separately in the course of the next 24 hours.

What’s happening to Secure Central?
————————————————-
Steps have been taken to ensure continuation of the Secure Central service, and you may be contacted in the near future regarding this and any changes you may be required to make to your settings.

This has left a lot of users not knowing what to do next or even discuss what actions they can take.

Zone1 Creative have kindly put together a forum for EROL users wanting to know more. You can goto http://goo.gl/fNYSd to access the forum.
